The Correct T45 Manual Transmission Quality Parts the First Time!
T45 issues have been reported from a number of different sources indicating that transmission has design issues. Ford has release a Technical Service bulletin (TBS) for reverse issues. The TSB calls for replacing the current fork with on of the 3 forks available based on measurements of the current fork and its travel. Engagement of reverse isn’t synchronized the transmission has a tendency to grind when shifted into reverse, the T45 transmission could possibly get stuck in reverse or commonly pops our of gear. It has been reported that the transmission is not smooth shifting going into 2nd and 3rd, typically and issue with the fork.

The T45 5 speed manual transmission was engineered and manufactured by Borg Warner for the Mustang and Mustang Cobra. The transmission are installed behind the 4.6L engine and there are differences between the Mustang and the Cobra transmission mostly dealing with the transmission mount/cross-member and speedo gears. The Mustang T45 in the GT has an 8 tooth speedo gear, and the Cobra uses a 7 tooth gear. The unit is identified by the casting number starting with 1381-XXX-XXX, The T45 is rated at 325 ft lbs of input torque and has an aluminum case, bell housing and tail-housing.
