(ûr′stĕd′)n.

Oersted

Oersted′ərstəd (electromagnetism) The unit of magnetic field strength in the centimeter-gram-second electromagnetic system of units, equal to the field strength at the center of a plane circular coil of one turn and 1-centimeter radius, when there is a current of 1/(2π) abamp in the coil; 1 oersted corresponds to approximately 79.577 amperes. The oersted is defined as a dyne per unit pole. The oersted is 1000/4π (≈) amperes per meter, in terms of SI units. The H-field strength inside a long solenoid wound with 79.58 turns per meter of a wire carrying 1 A is approximately 1 oersted. The preceding statement is exactly correct if the solenoid considered is infinite in.

Abbr. Oe

Ohm

The centimeter-gram-second electromagnetic unit of magnetic field strength, equal to the magnetic intensity one centimeter from a unit magnetic pole.
